Saturday 24th May 2008, the earth took a tremble, the epicentre was very near to where we were staying- which was a town called Villavicencio.
A big group of us from school were actually staying at a Finca (a farm) when it struck.
Although it was only 5.5 on the richter scale(the same as the recent one in Peterborough), it was still a really wierd to experience.
But both before and after that, we had a great time at the finca.
Even though it meant that the earthquake had caused a couple of landslides over the main road back to Bogota, and that in turn meant that we were stranded in villavicencio.
The alternative was to take the dangerous mountain road way back, which was apparently frequented by thieves and possible guerrilla action.
So, we went on a 12 hour bus journey back to Bogota (it should have taken 4 hours),
through beautiful countryside and mountains that you wouldn't really get to see otherwise. An unexpected delight, and another chance to see how gorgeous this country really is.
Would you believe it, the road was fine, no problems at all, and infact-some of it was a dirt track! Barely large enough for the coach!
He ehee, enjoy the pictures.
